Trader Joe's Edamame Recall
Las Vegas-based Tesoro’s Trading Co. on Dec. 16, 2020, issued a recall for frozen “Trader Joe’s Lightly Salted Edamame” over potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. The recalled edamame was sold at Trader Joe’s retail stores in the Arizona, Southern California, Southern Nevada, and Utah regions. Affected products come in a 16 ounce plastic package and are stamped on the back bottom portion of the package with one of the following lot numbers: 22LA102 M, 22LA102 N, 22LA102 P, 22LA080 B.
Advanced Fresh Concepts Edamame Recall
The FDA in March 2017 announced a recall after random quality testing found potential listeria contamination in edamame produced by Advanced Fresh Concepts (AFC).
Products affected by the recall include packages branded "Edamame -- Soybeans in Pods," dated between 01/03/2017 and 03/17/2017 with the UPC code 0-23012-00261-9.
These items were sold at sushi counters in grocery stores, cafeterias and corporate dining centers in the following states: Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Mississippi, North Carolina, New Hampshire, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington and Wyoming.
Retailers have been notified and the affected product should no longer be on sale.
What is Listeriosis?
When a person is infected with Listeria monocytogenes, the resulting illness is referred to as listeriosis. Persons at greatest risk from listeriosis include children, the elderly, pregnant women, and individuals with compromised immune systems.
Signs and symptoms of listeriosis include:
- Muscle aches
If listeriosis spreads to the nervous system, symptoms may include:
- Stiff neck
- Loss of balance
